So I just started playing DUST 514 this past weekend, and I REALLY want to like it, but there are SO many things about it that need to be changed, fixed, or taken out completely. I could go on and on for days listing off all the things that I need to be fixed in this game, but I will try to keep it to the three or four biggest things that come to mind. In my opinion, the biggest issues are in the Aiming and general movement, Weapon and Armor balancing among players in game, Map design, and lastly the ISK and SP.
First thing's first: Aiming and general character movement. The aiming is, to say the least, stiff and rigid, and turning or moving your selected character feels more like trying to push around a loaded bus than a human being. There is no sense of fluid movement in any aspect of the game. I've read a few things regarding turning restrictions among the three armor types (light, medium, and heavy), and I don't know about anyone else, but that just sounds like a terrible idea. If heavy armor is, just that, heavy, than instead of imposing movement restrictions, add a sense of weight to the character. Trying to turn a heavy feels more like he's stuck in mud, rather than lugging around a heavy set of armor. Heavy armor only really effects how quickly a person can move in any given direction laterally, not so much rotationally. Now a heavy weapon like a Machine Gun or a Forge Gun would be more likely to effect the speed of rotation, but I still don't see that as a justification for the ridiculous movement speed of the characters. I know there has to be coding out there for weighted movement dynamics, if I'm not mistaken, that is exactly what the Battlefield games use. As for the aiming, well I don't know as much about that, all I know is that there is no reason every other round should miss the target, once again BF3 or any popular FPS should be a good guide for aiming dynamics. And on a bit of a side note, the grenade throwing is the worst I've experienced in any FPS I've played.
Now this is probably one of the biggest problems I have come across in the game, the imbalance in Weapons and Armor among players. I get the whole ranking up idea, and I actually enjoy it a lot, but it create a terrible gap between the lower level players (like myself) and those who have poured money and SP into their characters to create nearly unstoppable tanks. I'm not saying everyone should be on the same level no matter what, however there should be a sense of match making in games, at least for the instant battles since they don't really effect anything. Merc and Corp battles should be joined at the players discretion, battles they should enter only when they feel they are ready to take on a higher level of combat., as such these battle should have added bonuses for the Mercs involved in them. That would be the fairest way to balance things out for the lower level players, while letting the higher level players retain their skills and upgrades.
The next thing is map design, and I'm sorry to say this, but the map design in DUST 514 is terrible. Most games have maps that bottleneck players into certain areas to initiate combat, and allow the player adequate cover while keeping them vulnerable to certain angles. These maps are so open that many times it takes me a considerable number of minutes to even find somebody, and other times I get shot from behind before I even know anyone is there, a lot of times this is due to the AWFUL spawning system. It is to easy to sit at a clone spawn and wait for your next victim to pop up, especially when there is NO spawn protection to speak of. Try arranging the maps a little better if possible, and better cover, and give us a bit of spawn protection.
And lastly, it would be really nice to take any excess ISK you have and trade it in for a certain amount of SP. It's not the worst part of the game, but it would just be nice for us to be able to take the extra amount of ISK we have and trade it in for some dearly needed SP to get to the next dropsuit or weapon upgrade. And to add to that, it'd be nice to be able to sell whatever bad weapons we have for some money to buy better ones.
Anyways, that's my two cents on the subject. Like I said I REALLY want to like the game, it just needs a considerable amount of work before it's top notch for me. Thanks for reading guys! Hope you take these ideas into consideration!! |
